Brooklyn Half Training Week 6

So…apparently there are less than 5 weeks left til the Brooklyn Half Marathon.  And I still haven’t really decided what my goal will be.  I’ve been training consistently and focusing more on strength and stretching than running, which I think should help a lot.  Eventually, I want to shave those 51 seconds off my current half PR so I can go sub-2.  But will it be in Brooklyn?  Not sure yet.  To be determined, I suppose.  But let’s recap last week’s awesome training.  [Warning, this post is choc-full of nature pics.  What can I say, we’ve had beautiful spring weather and I’m being a tree hugger?! 🙂 ]

Monday 4/7: Crossfit.  I was in Pennsylvania for work and decided to do a drop-in class at CrossFit King of Prussia after reading awesome reviews.  [Check out more about my experience at CrossFit KOP here!] The WOD was a “Choose Your Own Adventure” and I ended up doing 3 RFT: 500m row, 30 situps, 15 wall balls in 15:51.

Tuesday 4/8: Rest day/Short hike at Valley Forge National Park.  It was so beautiful and I wish I could have stayed longer and/or returned for more hiking adventures.

Wednesday 4/9.: 4ish miles in Philly!  My coworker suggested I head into Philly to run before traveling to my next hotel in Delaware and I’m so glad I took her advice.  I ran to the Museum of Art, on the stairs (obviously), then headed into the city a bit before turning around and running West along the Schuylkill River.  I went along Boathouse Row, reminisced about my high school crew days 😉 and caught an amazing sunset over the river.

Thursday 4/10: I made it back home in time for the 8pm beginners class at CrossFit 516.  Work in Delaware, followed by a 3.5 hour drive home, just to head right to Crossfit?  Now that’s dedication.  😉  We started with a warm-up, which felt more like a workout to me…5 min of jump roping and 10+min of rowing.  Then worked on KB swings & dead lifts.  Followed by a WOD: 4 RFT: 10 KB swings, 5 burpees, 200m run.  I finished in 6:10.  And my calves have been sore for days, thanks to that jump rope warm-up!

Friday 4/11: Rest.  Thank goodness.

Saturday: 5 easy miles (9:29 average pace).  My calves were screaming most of this run, which maybe was the reason it was faster than my usual “long run” pace.  The good news is spring running has FINALLY arrived…and I got some awesome new teal capris on sale at the Gap!

Sunday: Yoga/Stretching.  And serious foam rolling on those calves.  Woof!  Oh, and the boyfriend and I went for a little “hike” along the Bridle Path.  Not in Central Park, unfortunately.  But we found a bridle path out here on “the island”!
